After-Care ...

GCTC has long understood the value of after-care and follow-up and has developed strong resources to assist youth in their transitionback to the community. Currently, GCTC offers job development services and after-care in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston metro areas (with plans for expansion). In addition, GCTC has contracted with the Texas Youth Commission to provide proactive Parole Services in 157 of 254 Texas counties.

All youth leaving GCTC undergo a follow-up. This program provides the youth with job search assistance, school monitoring, referrals for specialized after-care, crisis intervention (when appropriate), and mentoring. The program serves youth in a 100 mile radius for 90 days.

Community Services Department provides Emergency Shelter Specialist who work to aid youth that might otherwise be homeless. Once a youth in need is identified, steps are taken to find and provide the youth with appropriate housing, furnishings, food, and a job prior to their return to the community.

Job Development

Once the youth has completed his course of studies the youth will return to his/her home community.He/She will have a Job Developer that will assist the youth with the task of securing a career within his or her chosen trade. The Job Developer assists in identifyingpublic transportation routes to and from worksites, transportation for job search, and coaching for the youth on job search skills prior to the interview. The Job Developer will act as a support center for the youth in their transition into the community. They will assist the youth with community based services that the youth may need as he/she returns home. The major goal of the program is for the youth to become gainfully employed, however the Job Developer will also assist the youth in the completion of GED/School. entering Post Secondary Training, working with Labor Unions, or entering the Armed Forces.
